Exceptional Care - by Design

As you know, a great personal physician is hard to find. Why has it become so difficult? It’s because ownership and operations of primary care practices have changed dramatically over the past 20 years - the span of my career.

In 2004, the year I became a doctor, 1 in 4 (25%) physicians were employed by health systems or corporations.

In 2024, the year I started this practice, 4 in 5 (80%) physicians were employed by health systems or corporations. Big change.

Most patients who call me say, “I used to have a great PCP. Now I’m in a new practice and I hardly ever see my doctor but once a year.” Did you know that’s by design? The typical practice is designed to assign ~3,000 patients to each PCP. If you do the math, it’s just barely possible for that doc to see each patient once a year. That’s a bad design. Doctors are not happy, patients are not happy. Your doctor knows the system has changed, they see that quality is down and cost is up.  You doctor knows they could deliver better care if they had more time to spend really helping you. Believe me your doctor knows who they work for - and it’s not for you.

As a physician and healthcare delivery system expert, the evidence shows and I personally know that the most important asset you can secure in the healthcare system is a personal physician who knows you and advises you in your care over time.

Compare the design of today’s regular primary care practice to my practice as you consider what is best for you.
